Discipline

Sermon Notes | September 28, 2025

Discipline is CORRECTION driven by LOVE.

"...My son do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves..." Hebrews 12:5-6

"Discipline your son for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to his death." Proverbs 19:18

Discipline is not something you do TO your child, it is something you do FOR your child.

UNDISCIPLINED PARENTS

  1. Lifeguard Parents: Often rescue a child from consequences

" Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows." Galatians 6:7

  1. Etch-A-Sketch Parents: Often inconsistent

"The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother. Discipline your. son, and he will give you peace; he will bring delight to your soul."

Proverbs 29:15,17

  1. Split-Decision Parents: Often not united

"Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?" Amos 3:3

PARENTAL EXPECTATIONS

  1. We expect first-time and cheerful obedience

"Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord." Colossians 3:20

"Do everything without complaining or arguing." Philippians 2:14

Discipline more for attitude than actions.

  1. We agree to never discipline in anger

"In your anger do not sin." Ephesians 4:26

  1. We will discipline promptly and with instruction and reconciliation

"Fathers, do not exasperate your children. instead bring them up in the training and the instruction of the Lord." Ephesians 6:4
